VIDEO: Ways we can abandon ourselves energetically

Jan Normanton • September 7, 2023

So energetically we may self abandon and that may come in different ways. We may overexert ourselves, we may overstimulate our systems, be in hypervigilance. We may be overadrenalized, over exercise which means we can’t keep still. We expend all our energy and keep expending it over and over again.

The opposite may be where we underutilise our energy and lie low and go into what’s known as shutdown, what’s known as hypovigilance, the opposite to hypervigilance; this is where we have very little energy, where we feel lethargic and closed off and have little energy in the body, energy in the mind.

Both of these ways are clever ways where we self abandon and they may have been very clever in our childhoods where we had to shut down to protect ourselves and keep a low profile, keep out of the way, be invisible. And we may have developed a strategy to overexert ourselves, to keep busy all the time and to keep that energy going all the time, as a way of fleeing from certain situations which were not comfortable for us back then.
